Jamaica is much more than just pretty beaches and luxury resorts. In company of good friends we decided to discover more of the island that people usually think of as dangerous and unsafe, rented a car and went around to see the “real Jamaica”. With some common sense precautions you can visit the island without any big risks.
Once you get used to the constant attention of the beggars and hustlers, you will find that the local people are hard working, helpful and courteous. Use local tour guides wherever possible to support community tourism, since the locals benefit very little from Jamaica’s huge tourism revenues.
